Traveling from Ford City to Manorville/Kittanning
The trail possesses a break between the access at 14th Street in Ford City and northern Manorville. To travel north from one section to another exit the developed section at 14th Street, turning onto 3rd Avenue. Cross 17th Street at the end of 3rd Avenue passing through a stone barrier adjacent to Black’s Arcade. Follow the trail to the next street in Manorville (Water Street). Here you can turn left and follow the river on Water Street or turn right then left onto Main Street. The Manorville Borough has concerns that an influx of trail traffic will cause an already crowded Water Street to become more so. The Armstrong Trail offers the Main Street alternative by going north on Main Street until it intersects old Route 66. This highway has WIDE shoulders and has been signed as “Share the Road” route by Penn DOT. Follow this route until you see a large electrical substation on the left. You can cross over old Route 66 and connect with the Manorville/Kittanning Section at this point.
Regarding Hooks Station
In using the trail, you should be aware that some nearby landowners question the title to the trail and the Armstrong Rails to Trails’ right to use the land. As of the present, this is being litigated. In addition, some sections may be obstructed or posted. The Armstrong Trail recommends against trespassing or antagonizing trail neighbors anywhere, but especially so in these places. Since the status of this matter changes from time to time, you may wish to check with this web site’s Trail News for the current status.
